More of the Free Day

Two other members of the class took advantage of the opportunity for a day trip with a visit to the Abbey of Monte Cassino, between Rome and Naples, where Saint Benedict wrote his Rule and where the saintly abbot and founder and his sister, Saint Scholastica, died and are buried. At the Abbey, high atop the mountain, our classmates attended the Solemn Mass of the Baptism of the Lord (celebrated today in Italy) complete with Gregorian chant, saw many precious religious artifacts, including vestments, chalices, and manuscripts, and also visited the tombs of the two saints.

A couple of other classmates trekked to the Bernardi Campus of the University of St. Thomas, to be reunited with our retreat director, Fr. Carola. They served as deacons for the Mass celebrated for the UST students at Bernardi.

Several of our Ghanaian brothers spent part of the day with their fellow countryman, His Eminence Peter Cardinal Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Some might remember that Cardinal Turkson visited the University of St. Thomas last year.

Tomorrow our schedule has us at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls for our morning Mass. More to come tomorrow, keep the prayers coming! Prayers for all our faithful readers!
